One contractor for cleaning, waste and site maintenance at GKN

The brief

A large manufacturing site generates three separate headaches for a facilities team: the building gets dirty fast, waste builds up in yards and bin stores, and the grounds slip when everyone is focused on production. GKN’s Birmingham site wanted those three jobs handled by one contractor who could be inducted once, work to the site’s permit system and be trusted to turn up without supervision.

What we do

• Scheduled exterior cleaning: office and welfare glazing, cladding, entrance canopies and signage
• Waste handling: skip and bin-store management, yard clearance and removal of debris from external areas
• Site maintenance: weed control, grounds upkeep, pressure washing of hard-standing, walkways and loading areas
• Visits planned around shift patterns, deliveries and production shutdowns
• Site induction, permit-to-work, RAMS and insurance in place before the first visit
• Photo reporting after each visit and a monthly summary for the facilities team

Working on a live production site

Manufacturing sites don’t stop for cleaners. We work to GKN’s permit-to-work system, keep to designated walkways and vehicle exclusion zones, and use banksmen where forklifts and HGVs are moving. Cleaning is pure-water only, so there’s no chemical run-off into drains or planted areas, and no ladders are used against glazing.

The result

One schedule, one set of paperwork and one invoice instead of three suppliers. The site looks the part for customer visits and audits, waste no longer accumulates around the yard, and the facilities team has a single number to call for anything on the outside of the building.
